Located in the southwest corner of the San Francisco Bay, this
program teaches children about marine ecosystems and how to gather data. The center
actually uses all of the data collected. Even though it was a nice spring day, it
was very cold and windy there. We got wet and muddy learning how to be marine
scientists!
The first thing we did was to drop a net off the pier and pull
it to shore to gather different types of fish. With 25 children and 8 adults we only
caught one fish! This was because the kids had been throwing rocks in the water
when we got there, not knowing that we would be collecting fish from there.
The last activity of the day was measuring a baby shark that the center
had just caught for tagging that day.
