I have been the GED Instructor at the EOYDC since the beginning of 2004. I can honestly say that in all my years of teaching in the public school system, no employment experience can come close to what I have experienced at the Center. I truly enjoy coming to work and being a part of such a big family oriented establishment.

I have the wonderful privilege of interfacing with children and adults. I have the freedom to express myself as a mother, counselor, mentor, friend, and motivator, all while preparing my students to pass the GED exam. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an organization that truly cares about children, not just for the time they first come through our doors, but on into their future as adults.

We can take pride in the fact that we helped to shape their reality and made a positive difference in their lives. EOYDC is a safe haven and beacon in the midst of a community that is faced with daily examples and reminders of despair, defeat, and danger. Once the young people enter our doors, we embrace them, nurture them, guide them, teach them, empower them, and then after establishing what we hope is a life-long bond, we send them into the world to make an indelible mark on others’ lives the way we have impacted them.

It’s a joy to be a part of the solution in East Oakland through the EOYDC.
