First I would like to start off by thanking Ms. Regina for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the E.O.Y.D.C family. I started working at the East Oakland Youth Development Center mid October 2006. I was thrilled to have a chance to work here. I am the Coordinator of the Homework Center. This job has been a great learning experience. I am in school now to become a teacher and I believe trait of a good teacher is to know how to deal with children. A lot of teachers miss out on great kids because they don’t know how to deal with them. The E.O.Y.D.C has been a great help for me to further my education and it also made me realize that working with kids is really what I want to do.

What I do in the Homework Center with the kids is help them with their homework, study for any tests, and make sue that they understand what they are doing as far as material they need to know. I also do fun things with them. They have movie days, holiday parties and free days to let them know that they did a great job during the week. For the tutors that work in the Homework Center with me I direct them on how to deal with the kids and there job that I have given them for the day. I also give them the responsibility to take over the homework center one day, so that I know which one of the tutors I can leave in charge if ever there’s an emergency. Each tutor is given a different responsibility every day; so that they are all capable of doing any job I give to them. The tutors are great and I can rely on anyone of them if I have to. They are all intelligent and bright young people and I couldn’t as for a better Homework Center staff.

Working in the Homework Center ahs been so rewarding. I have developed a great relationship with the ids and also the tutors. The E.O.Y.D.C staff is so wonderful and whenever you have a problem, they are there to help. My boss, Ms. Regina is a really great person because she is there for the youth. She tries her best to help us and she wants us to do well in life. She will do whatever it takes to help us succeed in whatever we want to do. We at the East Oakland Youth Development Center are very lucky to have a wonderful boss like Ms. Regina.

I enjoy being here at the E.O.Y.D.C and I don’t think any youth can have a better job than this one. I tell myself all the time I am blessed to be a part of this wonderful team.
