Making A Difference

Project J.O.Y. has helped me to achieve knowledge from the work Project J.O.Y. has given me. It has really been a great help. I feel I can do better in my attendance and strive for the goal I am trying to achieve.

I would like to thank Project J.O.Y. for taking time out for all young people in the community to better their lives.

Project J.O.Y. has helped me in more ways than one. For starters, I now have a full time job at Super K-Mart and I owe it all to this program for giving me the hook-up. The second thing they helped me with is the most important thing that has ever happened to me. Project J.O.Y. has helped me get my G.E.D. I would like to say thanks to all of the staff and say I really appreciate all of the encouragement I have received.

Project J.O.Y. has helped me complete my goal. They have shown me job skills to find placement and I have met many people in this program. Without this program, I don’t think I would have done it. I appreciate the support that the staff has given me during the last 7 months. Project J.O.Y. has done a lot for me and I think I will do a lot for someone else.

“I will be forever grateful for the years I spent a EOYDC taking that dance class, for not only was the Center fun and exciting for me, but the Center to me was a part of an extended family.”

When I first started school, I was an “A” student. As the years went by I was moving up to high school and meeting new people. I got involved in the wrong crowd and my grades dropped. I quit going to school and I got pregnant. Since then my life has changed. When I learned about Project J.O.Y., I knew that this was a great place to start fresh on my education. I was so behind on everything, but coming here really gave me hope that I could go to school, get my education, and be something for my child.

Project J.O.Y. helped me focus on my goal of what I wanted to do with myself. I’ve met a lot of interesting people here that are ready to learn. I think that Project J.O.Y. is a good idea to help everyone reach their goal, even when they thought it was too late. I really admire my teacher, Mrs. Angela Spencer, for her time and patience for me and the other classmates.

“Before I came to this class, I didn’t think that I could study, but I learned a lot of different ways to get the information to stick.  I think this is a great class. I learned a lot about the world of computers and myself.  Thank you EOYDC for offering this program.”

“EOYDC is truly a big part of who I am.  I sometimes find myself accidentally answering my home phone as if I am here.  Through EOYDC I have gained many new and wonderful interests.”

Selena Wilson

Student at Santa Rosa Junior College

“The East Oakland Youth Development Center has taught me a lot.  I’ve learned different computer skills and how to operate a computer.  The Center has helped me accomplish so many things I can say that this place means a lot to me.  The EOYDC is like a second home to me and the people are just like my family.”
