I have been working at the East Oakland Youth Development Center for two years. During that time, I have learned many things, such as responsibility, loyalty, commitment and leadership.

Learning is an everyday thing for me at E.O.Y.D.C. I don’t just learn from what I see or do before I come to work, but I also learn a lot from the children. The children at the E.O.Y.D.C have helped me to become a person who can take time out and have patience. The children also brighten my day. I’ve had the opportunity to watch them grow and see how I have succeeded in helping them accomplish their goals.

During my time at the E.O.Y.D.C, I have been employed as a Homework Tutor and a Youth Leader. I was employed as a Youth Leader in the summer of 2005. Being a Youth Leader was something that I really enjoyed. I was not just an employee, but a big sister to the children. I have many memories of doing a lot of activities as part of the staff, but being a friend to the employees and the children made my job fun and a lot easier. I have accomplished many things at the Center and I will continue to accomplish many more as long as I continue to become a better person and take part in resources that can benefit me. The center is one of those places.

While working at the Center, I have been introduced to many different people that have succeeded and are now giving back to the community, such as Gary Payton, Pam Moore, Brian Shaw, and many others that have helped the community and the E.O.Y.D.C. to be a better place.
