Working at the East Oakland Youth Development Center means a lot to me. Every time I come to the Center, I have a responsibility to myself, my boss, and the kids to give my best effort and to exemplify what it means to be not only a good youth leader but a role model.

I believe it is not only my job to help the kids with homework but to get to know their names, what school they go to and what they like to do. I learn just as much from them as they learn from me. I see myself in them because a few years ago, I was the one in the after school program looking up to the counselors. I have always wanted to work with kids because I always wanted to set a good example for someone else. I am always trying something new and I have vehemence for working with kids. I have a need to infiltrate their minds and talk to them about more than just school.

In my future, I hope to one day become a teacher. I believe the East Oakland Youth Development Center is helping me fulfill that dream. Working here has helped me to think quickly on my feet when problems arise. I have also learned how much the kids look up to us.

Overall I love working here and just as the kids learn from me everyday, I am also learning from them. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to work here and I look forward to growing and learning together.
