Trinity Wilson to compete in first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore

Wilson participates on Team USA in 100 meter hurdles

Oakland, CA — Trinity Wilson, a 15 year old member of the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) track team will represent the United States in the first World Youth Olympics.
Trinity holds both the freshman and sophomore national indoor 60m Hurdles records at 8.44 and 8.29; the age 14 and 15 national records for the 100m hurdles at 13.77 and 13.46, the national sophomore record at 13.46, the youth girls (age 13-14) national record of 13.85, and intermediate girls national record 13.87.
She is one of only two athletes from the state of California in track to represent Team USA. Trinity will live in the Youth Olympic Village in Singapore for over 3 weeks which includes her participation in the opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympic Games August 14-August 26, 2010. Her first race will be on August 17, 2010.
Under the professional direction of Coach Curtis Taylor, for the past 16 years dozens of national and state records have been broken over and over and almost 100 athletes have gone onto college through the EOYDC community track club. In addition, several students have participated in the Olympic Trials, World Youth Championships and Pan American Games. Students
have traveled to China, Portugal, Brazil, Czechoslovakia and several other countries.
“Trinity is one of the most coachable and enjoyable athletes that I have ever coached. She is motivated and very goal oriented. She will be very successful in whatever she chooses to do in life” says Coach Taylor.
Trinity is not only an impressive student athlete, she is a gracious, humble young woman who serves as an EOYDC youth leader. Upon her return, she will begin her junior year at St. Mary’s High School. She currently holds a GPA of 3.2.On July 28th, in an effort to motivate and inspire young athletes, she served as a guest speaker at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics Opening Ceremony in Sacramento. Additionally, Trinity enrolled in junior college this summer for her own academic enrichment. She was the only high school sophomore enrolled in the course. She desired to increase her academic knowledge and understanding of her own history through an African American studies course

EOYDC, a national and international model for youth development, celebrates 32 years of service to the Oakland community. EOYDC (www.eoydc.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is supported by tax-deductible contributions. The track and field club is one of the pre-eminent programs EOYDC offers free of charge. The community track club brings together students from public and private school backgrounds to train in a rigorous discipline which includes weight training, speed development, sprinting, running, jumping, flexibility and coordination, skill acquisition exercises, character building
and life skills development.
“If an individual works hard, then he or she will be as successful as their mind or body will allow,” Coach Taylor says. “We want youth to participate because they like the sport. If they do, then success will follow.”

Coach Taylor has developed many other national/state track champions, including:

o   Ashton Purvis, 100 and 200 meters(Gatorade athlete of the year, University of Miami)

o   Julian Purvis 100 meter hurdles (University of Michigan)

o   Ke’Nyia Richardson – Triple Jump, 100-meter hurdles, 2006 California Gatorade Track    and Field Athlete of the Year, and was the Track and Field News 2007 High School Female Athlete of the Year. (current UCLA student)

o  Renee Williams – Long Jump ( UCLA graduate)

o  Miesha Marzell – NCAA champion, 1500 meters; California champion, 800 meters (Georgetown University graduate, current PHD candidate)

o  Ryan Peters – 300-meter hurdles (San Diego State University graduate)

o  Tania Woods – 100 and 200 meters (Louisiana State University graduate)

o  Bisa Grant – 100-meter hurdles (UCLA graduate)

o  Andre Ammons – 200-meter dash (USC graduate)

o  Michelle Decoux – 100- and 300-meter hurdles (USC graduate)
