In my opinion, EOYDC is a resource center for people of all ages. With the help of EOYDC, many individuals of the East Oakland streets wouldn’t have anywhere to turn.

EOYDC welcomes various communities to come and enjoy the resources it has to offer. Also, without the help of Ms. Jackie Anderson, many adults wouldn’t have the skills they need to go out and get a job.

In addition, EOYDC can be a motivational center because every staff member is willing to help out a young person when they need it. It’s also a positive environment for the kids to get tutoring, athletic skills, cooking, art, and computer literacy. I believe if there was a development center on every corner instead of a liquor store, Oakland would be a lot different, no more out of control violence and destroying a generation.

Before I came to EOYDC, I didn’t have a very clear view of what I wanted to do after high school, but after having the opportunity to work here, I’ve set standards for myself. Last year I received 2.33 GPA, but with the standards I have this year, I got a 3.33 GPA on my previous report card.

I guess EOYDC was a wake up call for me to become successful and be able to give back to the Center because without it, I would probably be another young person in the street.

This is most definitely a Center that lives up to its motto “Helping our youth achieve success”.
