Will Smith

My name is Will Smith, and I first became acquainted with the E.O.Y.D.C. and everything it has to offer in 2002.

I began attending the G.E.D class in hopes of obtaining my diploma and making something more of myself other than just being another statistic.  I was facing legal problems at the time due to some of my actions, which were brought about by the thought of not being able to be somebody that would make it in life.  I was a product of the ghetto trapped in the street life and I was on the verge of accepting that as my reality.  Thanks to God my teachers and counselors here at the E.O.Y.D.C. would not allow me to accept that as my fate and helped me to help myself and change not just my way of thinking but also my way of life.

I took the G.E.D. Practice test and did so well that my teacher suggested that I forget the class and move ahead and take the actual test.  I took and passed the math and social studies portion of the test and disaster struck.  My past had finally caught up with me.

Although this seemed to be a major barrier, better yet roadblock, for me, I thought of the words and inspiration and encouragement that I received at the E.O.Y.D.C. and completed the test against all odds, and passed with flying colors.

Now it’s 2004 and I have the E.O.Y.D.C. to thank for my existence.  I was faced with a near death experience and although I survived I almost fell apart, but I was able to hold it together because of the love and support that I received from the staff here at the E.O.Y.D.C.  I have my life, my health, high self-esteem, and high hopes for a bright future thanks to the staff here at the center.  I now have a more spiritual and positive outlook on life and everything in it, and that is what the E.O.Y.D.C. has done for me.
